"Be brought down a notch (or two)" = xuống một mức -> nghĩa là bị hạ thấp, sỉ nhục, làm tổn thương cái tôi/niềm kiêu hãnh. Làm tổn thương người khác thì dùng "take/knock (someone) down a notch (or two)".

Ví dụ
“Mr. President, you’re going to win, just knock it down a notch,” the South Carolina Republican said on “Fox & Friends” when asked what Trump needs to do to be victorious (chiến thắng) in 2020.

The woman said she no longer wanted to have contact with her boyfriend, but declined to file (nộp đơn) for a final restraining order (lệnh ngăn cấm), which Rivas said he would be "happy to grant." Rivas said the boyfriend, who he called a "knucklehead (ngu đần)," "needs to be brought down a notch."

I have a message (thông điệp) for parents like me: Do not shame (hổ thẹn) yourself for not being prepared for this. Do not put yourself down if you aren’t good at this. Do not let the Facebook-perfect images knock you down a notch. We are all created differently and for good reason. So, you do what you can.
