"Punch the clock" nghĩa là gì?

"Punch the (time) clock" = ấn đồng hồ -> ghi lại thời gian đi làm và tan làm của nhân viên (chấm công). Nghĩa rộng hơn là đi làm nói chung, nhất là công việc hành chính có giờ làm cố định.
Ví dụ
He recognizes (nhận ra) the value of work. “In America, we want people to work... to set the alarm clock and punch the time clock. That’s what America’s all about.”
Fortune has for the past 23 years highlighted (nhấn mạnh) the companies it deems (xem là) most worthy to punch a clock, and its 100 Best Companies to Work For in 2020 has several retailers making the grade.
For years, workers at the Holden factory would punch a time clock at the start of their shift (ca làm việc). Now one of those businesses is dying and the other is making an extraordinary (phi thường) comeback.
Hence my brilliant idea for the workplace cone (trụ cảnh báo hình nón), just like the one the veterinarian (bác sĩ thú y) makes your dog wear to prevent it from licking itself. Really, wearing one should be compulsory (bắt buộc) the moment you punch the clock.
