"Snakes and ladders" = trò chơi rắn leo thang -> trò chơi của trẻ con, để giành được kho báu bạn phải tránh những con rắn đáng sợ, có thể leo lên thang và về đích.

Ví dụ
An Edmonton family has gotten creative (sáng tạo) in their bid to stay fit, while physical distancing (cách ly vật lý). Josephine Christensen drew a massive game of snakes and ladders on the family driveway (đường lái xe vào nhà). Christensen says it took her about an hour to draw out the game.

And so people are going to take solace (an ủi) in music. They're going to catch up on a lot of movies at home. They're going to get bored. We're playing every day, at 5:30 we play Snakes and Ladders, which in America is called Chutes and Ladders, and it's become a family routine (thói quen) now and it's fantastic (tuyệt vời).

In the world of sport we often use the image of swings and roundabouts (cái đu và vòng ngựa gỗ). In the 2020 Vodacom Super Rugby season we should rather be mind-eyeing (chú ý) a game of snakes and ladders. For while swings and roundabouts imply very little nett gain or loss (được hoặc mất), snakes and ladders can instantly lift you into the stratosphere (tầng bình lưu) or thump (đập) you straight onto the floor.
