"Wait for the other shoe to drop" nghĩa là gì?

"Wait for the other shoe to drop" = chờ cho chiếc giày kia rơi xuống -> chờ xem một câu chuyện dở dang sẽ kết thúc ra sao, thường thường là chờ một điều gì không tốt đẹp cho lắm.; chờ kết quả xấu còn lại. Còn "drop the other shoe" là chủ động hoàn thành nhiệm vụ, tạo ra kết quả. Thành ngữ này khởi đầu từ câu chuyện một người đang ngủ bỗng nghe một tiếng động lớn làm ông ta chòang thức dậy thì thấy bạn ông ta vừa tháo một chiếc giày ra ném xuống đất. Ông ta tỉnh ngủ và chờ xem khi nào thì bạn ông ta ném nốt chiếc giày kia.
Ví dụ
