"Knocking shop" nghĩa là nhà thổ, nhà chứa (cách nói hài hước ở Anh).

Ví dụ
“We get a few giggles (cười khúc khích) when we say the name, The Galway Hooker,” ARK group bar manager James Connolly told Australian Bartender. “Believe it or not, it’s not an Irish knocking shop but actually a type of fishing boat famous from that part of the world.”

Aged eight he moved into his aunt Honey’s (real name Handsome Washington) brothel (nhà chứa) in Augusta, Georgia, where he perfected his “buck dance” – a solo gambol (đùa giỡn) native to North Carolina not unlike tap (quán rượu)– to entertain the troops (đoàn người) and guide them in to the knocking shop.

If you’ve never been camping, I can tell you now - it hurts, it really hurts. That is, unless you go for one of those fancy ‘Glamping’ breaks, whereupon your tent (lều trại) is not really a tent at all, but a luxurious (sang trọng) version of life under canvas (lều) with all the mod-cons (tiện nghi) one might expect in an Algerian knocking shop - or, so I’m told.
