"Sandwich generation" nghĩa là gì?

"Sandwich generation" = thế hệ "sandwich" -> nghĩa là thế hệ những người bị kẹp giữa trách nhiệm với cha mẹ (ở quê nhà) và chăm sóc con cái chưa trưởng thành (ở nơi đất khách). Cụm từ xuất hiện trong những năm 1900.
Ví dụ
Yet, as someone who has dedicated (cống hiến) my academic career to human dignity (phẩm chất), health, and the Holocaust, I feel as though I am part of the “sandwich generation.”
“I have cancer (ung thư).” When my mother said those three words, it catapulted (đưa) me into the “sandwich generation,” a term used to describe middle-aged adults who care for both elderly parents and children.
The sandwich generation is now navigating (điều hướng) working from home while keeping the peace with three generations living together. Instead of in-person (trực tiếp) meetings, web conferencing has become the norm (thông lệ).
As Baby Boomers (thế hệ sinh từ 1946 - 1964) age, more people than ever are finding themselves in the Sandwich Generation. That term was coined (đặt ra) in 1981 by social worker Dorothy Miller to mean people in their 30’s and 40’s, who were simultaneously (đồng thời) caring for school-age children and aging parents.
