"Stand up in court" nghĩa là làm chứng, chứng minh, biện hộ thành công trước tòa.

Ví dụ
After a recent ruling (phán quyết) in Denver, Colorado Springs Mayor (Thị trưởng) John Suthers says he's confident the city's law against homeless camping would stand in court.

Election officials (giới chức bầu cử) had been taking elaborate preparations (chuẩn bị kỹ lưỡng) to protect public health while offering residents a chance to vote at polling places Tuesday, and Republican (Đảng Cộng hòa) legislative (lập pháp) leaders told them to keep going even after the governor (thống đốc) issued his order, arguing that it would not stand up in court.

The court told the jury (bồi thẩm đoàn) how Susan B. Anthony voted in a national election before women won suffrage (giành quyền bầu cử), was arrested (bị bắt), and then acquitted (tha bổng) and ordered to pay a $100 fine. "So she stood up in court and said she would never pay a penny of that unjust fine (tiền phạt bất công), and she died 25 years later. She still hadn't paid the fine, but women still didn't have the right to vote."
