“Get onside” nghĩa là gì?

“Get (one’s) onside” có từ onside là ở vị trí hợp lệ -> cụm từ này nghĩa là có được sự ủng hộ và chấp thuận của ai.

Ví dụ
The studio was keen to get her “onside” for promotional purposes. Redford was asked to help persuade her to attend a premiere (buổi công chiếu đầu tiên) in New Haven.

Mack finds boxes of amphetamines (thuốc có tác dụng kích thích) in the house. Mack questions Dee as to what they were doing in their house. Is the game up for Dee? Gráinne is not looking forward to visiting David’s mother in Kerry. But David has no intention of bringing her there. What has David in store for Gráinne? Caitríona is still angry with Vince, for lying to her about Andy. Vince knows he has his work cut out for him trying to get her onside.

Confronted by Mary, Ketch tries to play innocent (vô tội), then seems to want to get her onside in order to save her – he’s projected, over the course of the season, on both Dean and Mary, trying to adopt them both as kindred sociopath (rối loạn nhân cách chống đối xã hội) spirits, but their pesky (làm khó chịu) emotions keep getting in the way – but qualmlessly turns on her in rage (cơn thịnh nộ) when pressed. They fight, Mary wins in terms of physical combat, but Ketch manages to incapacitate her with a stun gun. She awakes to find herself back in the torture chair, observed by both Ketch and Toni Bevell, working together. Mary is deemed too valuable to kill, but the teaser for tomorrow’s episode, “There’s Something About Mary,” promises that things are about to get very messy between the Brits and Sam, Dean and the rest of the American community.
