"Grandfather clause" nghĩa là gì?

"Grandfather clause" = điều khoản ông nội -> nghĩa là tình huống luật lệ cũ vẫn được áp dụng với những vấn đề hiện tại trong khi luật mới sẽ áp dụng cho những tình huống sau này, những người được miễn trừ khỏi luật mới sẽ được gọi là có quyền ông nội.
Ví dụ
Most of Loveland’s former medical marijuana (cần sa) centers would need to be grandfathered (được miễn) in to avoid setbacks (thất bại) under proposed law. Petition’s sponsors say grandfather clause is meant to help businesses forced to close in 2010.
The new guidelines, however, went into effect (có hiệu lực) in April 2019, leaving Doe without protection under the policy's (chính sách) grandfather clause.
On May 1, the government confirmed (xác nhận) that it would indeed set up a “grandfather” clause to allow owners to keep those guns if they wished.
