Julian Leeser is a federalism (phong trào liên bang) freak (lập dị), young fogey, Gilbert & Sullivan tragic and policy nerd (mọt sách) who dates his ambition (tham vọng) to enter Parliament (Quốc hội) to about his 10th birthday, for which he asked his parents for a copy of the Australian constitution (hiến pháp).

He can do the light stuff – but figuratively (ẩn dụ) slapping interviewees (người được phỏng vấn) about the chops doesn’t come naturally. Often, he has the giddiness (phù phiếm) of a 13 year-old trying on his dad’s suit. Which is strange considering early in his career he was accused of being an old person in disguise (trá hình). Remember when everyone called Tubridy a “young fogey?” Now the process has reversed.

He was taught to be a used car dealer by then wheeler dealer (người khéo mặc cả), now BBC presenter Dominic Littlewood. “l realised, in trying to fake it as a car dealer,” he says, “that I'd already begun to fake it as a vicar (cha sở). I had taken on some of the norms (tiêu chuẩn) of what a vicar was like and had become a bit of a young fogey. I realised I didn't want to do that, and that I'd go back with freedom and self-confidence.”
