“Not for the life of" nghĩa là gì?

“Not for the life of (one)” = không dành cho cuộc đời ai -> câu này thường được dùng khi bạn không thể làm điều gì dù cố gắng nhiều đến đâu.
Ví dụ

I could not for the life of me figure out why professional sports was chosen over the others.
