"Word salad" nghĩa là hổ lốn từ/cụm từ gây khó hiểu, "xà lách chữ" -- bỏ một đống chữ vào một cái tô, trộn lên, rồi đổ ra, không nghĩa lý gì cả.

Ví dụ
To understand the term, magnetic fuzz, “a skilled artisan must wade through a morass of uncertainty and contradiction,” the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit said in a nonprecedential opinion. “It is this word salad of inconsistent indirect definitions and examples that so flummoxed the district court,” the appeals court said.

Tuesday’s presidential debate (tranh luận tổng thống) was a cringeworthy (gây xấu hổ) travesty (bắt chước, bôi bác). Moderator Chris Wallace quickly lost control of Donald Trump by allowing him to bulldoze over himself and former Vice President Joe Biden. It was 90-plus minutes of attacks on Biden — both personal and political, outright lies (nói dối trắng trợn), open hostility (thù địch) and grandiose (vĩ đại, hùng vĩ, lớn lao, đại quy mô) plans with zero details. In other words, Trump’s usual empty-word salad.

In scholastic debates, one frequently deployed technique for winning a contest without really winning the argument is called “spreading,” which involves tossing so many points out there that your opponent fails to respond to them all. It helps if the “spreader” isn’t inhibited by facts, logic, or syntax, which is why it’s a likely tactic for Donald Trump in his debates with Joe Biden. Nobody tosses up a word salad like the 45th president.
