"The mixture as before" = sự kết hợp như trước -> nghĩa là điều gì, hành động hay hoàn cảnh tương tự như trước đó.

This year it’s the mixture as before, but with a little inspired tweaking. Chris Hannon is donning the crazy gowns and elaborate head-dresses for the tenth time at Wakefield, but for the first time he has written the show, too, and you don’t need to read his programme note to know that he has, in his own words, “put a spin” on the story.

It’s the mixture as before and yet it isn’t. The opportunities to bring the premise up-to-date have not been missed — in the lengthy detour (sự chệch hướng) that traps the protagonists (vai chính) in a detention centre on the US border and in the allusions to omnipresent (có mặt ở khắp mọi nơi) electronic surveillance (sự giám sát, theo dõi), suggesting that the machines have already taken over.

The show was already sumptuously (xa hoa, lộng lẫy) produced, and its original cast members return to many previously seen settings, so the movie essentially is what Maugham might call “the mixture as before.” Also, only one year has passed at Downton even though four have gone by for us, so there’s no big “Avengers: Endgame”-style time jump. (Incredibly, that’s only the first of two Marvel references in this review—which either says something about the current state of the movie industry, or about Yours Truly.)
