"Forgive them for they know not what they do" = tha thứ cho chúng vì chúng không biết mình đang làm gì -> nghĩa là những lời cuối của chúa Jesus trên cây thánh giá, đòi hỏi dung thứ cho người đã đẩy ông vào chỗ chết.

Ví dụ
Forgive them, for they know not what they do. My prayer this morning is for the Government, for they simply know not what they do. From the beginning of this pandemic to date, they have tried their best to deal with a growing number of cases, limited vaccines and a rapidly (nhanh chóng) maxed out (cạn kiệt) health care system in a declining (giảm sút) economy; but they simply know...

“A million thoughts and feelings went on inside of myself, from anger, to rage, to hurt to the whole question of who would do such a thing,” Monsignor Cassato said, adding that the Bible verse “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do” had come to mind.

"When I looked at the face of Jesus smacked down and on the ground, what came to my mind was, 'Father forgive them for they know not what they do,'" Cassato told The Tablet, the newspaper of the diocese (giáo khu). "I could almost cry because it's such an offense."

“Forgive them, for they know not what they do,” was a prayer spoken by an innocent (vô tội) man who was executed (hành quyết). Do we truly know what we are doing when the state takes a life? Are we forever extinguishing that “Light within” that can turn a life from evil toward good?
