"Never knowingly undersold" nghĩa là gì?

The firm is also reviewing its Never Knowingly Undersold price pledge (đảm bảo), which has been in place since 1925, and is already cutting prices to widen (mở rộng) its appeal. It is thought that around eight of department stores will shut, on top of eight shops closed last year, as part of plans to cut £300million of annual costs.

"Never knowingly undersold is from another era (kỉ nguyên)," said Catherine Shuttleworth, founder of retail marketing agency Savvy. "She's got to correct the course on that. They'll be out of business if they do that in a world where Amazon change their prices every minute."

The latest big fall in profits at John Lewis has thrown the spotlight on to its famous price promise - to be "Never knowingly undersold". Competition in retailing has never been fiercer (gay gắt) and matching rivals' prices has cut profits to the bone at the business.

The department stores business will become a 60-70% online retailer (bán lẻ) by 2025 from 40% before the crisis. It will retain its “Never Knowingly Undersold” price pledge for the time being.
