"Rag-and-bone man" có rag là vải vụn, giẻ rách, bone là đồ bằng xương -> cụm từ này nghĩa là người thu mua quần áo cũ, nội thất và đồ cũ thải ra với giá rẻ.
Ví dụ
Birmingham could see an end to the rag-and-bone man with the launch of a new mobile tip service to tackle (xử lý) an “explosion” in fly-tipping (đồ dùng bỏ đi được vứt bên đường). Birmingham City Council today unveiled an investment of an extra £7.2 million to bring about cleaner, greener streets – particularly in response to increased dumping of rubbish since lockdown.
Collecting garbage sharpens (làm nhạy bén) the senses. It allows us to notice what others do not see. Where most people would spy a pile of junk, the rag-and-bone man sees treasure: empty bottles that might be dragged to the recycling center, computer innards that can be reused, furniture in decent shape. The garbage collector is alert. After all, this is a profession (ngành nghề).
But he was back at it again on Oct 6 last year when at about 6am, he unlawfully (bất hợp pháp) entered a rag-and-bone man's lorry (xe tải) at a Sembawang Crescent carpark.
The rag-and-bone man, 44, found them missing when he returned to the vehicle later that day and alerted (báo cáo) the police.
