"Price of liberty is eternal vigilance" = cái giá của tự do là phải luôn (đề cao) cảnh giác -> quyền tự do là quyền của mọi người từ khi sinh ra, nhưng không tự nhiên có, mà phải giành được qua đấu tranh và chăm chỉ làm việc, nhiều người đã phải đổ máu, bỏ mạng, nhiều công của đã mất. Giành được tự do đã khó, giữ được tự do còn khó hơn, vì luôn có các "thế lực thù địch" lăm le muốn giành lại.
