The Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group told staff members in a memo on Monday morning that it had fired a male employee who was accused of raping a female colleague.

A day earlier, the female employee published an essay on the company’s internal website in which she said her boss had raped (hiếp dâm, cưỡng hiếp) her while she was unconscious (bất tỉnh) after a “drunken night” (một đêm say) entertaining clients (chiêu đãi đối tác) on July 27 in Jinan, a city in eastern China. She said she initially reported it to the company, but got no recourse (sự cầu viện, sự nhờ đến, sự trông cậy vào (sự giúp đỡ trong lúc khó khăn...)).

...On Monday, Alibaba’s chief executive, Daniel Zhang, wrote in the early-morning memo, a copy of which was seen by The New York Times, that in addition to the firing of the male employee, two senior managers had resigned for failing to respond appropriately after the woman reported the incident.

“Alibaba Group has a zero-tolerance (không dung thứ, không khoan nhượng) policy against sexual misconduct (hành vi không đúng đắn, hành vi sai trái), and ensuring a safe workplace for all our employees is Alibaba’s top priority,” a company spokeswoman said.
