On the eve of Thanksgiving, Kaleb Bentham of Nevada County, California, says he heard his 90-pound rescue pit bull “Buddy” growling (tru lên) from outside of his house. He ran to check on him.

Bentham came upon a sight no one wants to see -- his dog was being dragged by the head (tóm đầu lôi đi) by a 350-pound black bear (con gấu).

"Honestly, the only thing I could think of was 'save my baby,'" Bentham said.

So, Bentham ran to Buddy’s side to rescue (cứu) him. "I just ran down there, plowed into the bear, tackled it and grabbed it by the throat and started hitting it in the face and the eye until it let go," he said.

Fortunately, the bear released Buddy, and Bentham was able to rush him Mother Lode Veterinary Hospital in Green Valley.

Buddy underwent surgery, where he got stitches (vết khâu) and staples (đóng bằng đinh kẹp) to his head, above his eyes and around his mouth.
