Brits have been warned that the coronavirus lockdown (phong tỏa) could bring a very unwelcome festive invasion into their homes at Christmas.

It has been claimed that millions of hungry rats, some more than a foot long, are desperate to come in from the cold and into warm centrally-heated homes as winter looms.

The lockdown which has forced pubs and restaurants to close means the rats have been unable to feast on half-eaten bags of chips and dumped takeaways so they are more 'starved' than previous years.

On Tuesday, Natalie Bungay, technical officer for the British Pest Control Association, warned: "As temperatures begin to drop and food becomes scarce, rats will begin looking for shelter (chỗ trú) and scraps in more urban locations.

"And as autumn and winter push on, rats start to head indoors."
