It goes by many names: Delhi belly. Montezuma's revenge. The Aztec two-step. But doctors use one not-so-glamorous term: traveler's diarrhea. If you're visiting a place this summer with less than ideal sewage (chất thải) disposal — maybe a resort in Mexico or a village in Rajasthan — chances are your GI tract will give you trouble at least once ... maybe twice ... maybe continuously.
Few diseases have attracted such a wide range of euphemisms (uyển ngữ) as traveller’s diarrhoea. The “runs” and gippy tummy are some of the milder monikers. Some reflect bad experiences in specific locations, such as Delhi Belly and the Kathmandu Quickstep. Montezuma's revenge is quite evocative as is the Tokyo two-step and Hong Kong Dog. However, reference to the squits and back-door trots may be a step too far for the squeamish (dạ dày yếu).
Getting diarrhea in Mexico is called Montezuma's revenge - it means the natives are still getting back at the Spanish 500 years later and the rest of the world is thrown in for good measure. But it doesn't just end there.
You might have heard people talk about “Montezuma’s Revenge” or the infamous (tai tiếng) travelers’ diarrhea while in Mexico. But that has been significantly diminished (giảm bớt) today. However, dietary changes while traveling can lead to conditions like fever, vomiting, and extreme nausea (buồn nôn) and sometimes cause intense dehydration that can quickly deteriorate your health.
