"The author of your own misfortune" nghĩa là gì?

"The author of your own misfortune" = tác giả của chính những nỗi khổ của bản thân -> nghĩa là những điều xui xẻo, kém may mắn là do tự bản thân chuốc lấy; 'sướng khổ tại tâm'.

Ví dụ
A MAN who caused havoc (tàn phá) in a Post Office was sent to jail by a sheriff who told him he is "the author of his own misfortune". Glasgow Sheriff Court heard that Robert McNulty turned up in Sandyhills Post Office, on Amulree Street, and started throwing items around.

"This was no accident. This was persistent (kiên trì) and prolonged (kéo dài) and deliberate (có chủ ý). "I have watched the CCTV several times and words themselves cannot adequately describe the force and impact your driving had on other cars. You are the author of your own misfortune."

Defence solicitor (cố vấn) Stephen McGuire said: “He has to deal with it appropriately when he comes out of custody.” Sheriff Hendry told Hagen: “You’re entirely the author of your own misfortune.” Hagen was jailed for five months, to start after the Glasgow sentence. A non-harassment order was put in place for three years to protect his ex.

You are a highly educated and industrious (cần cù) person who earns a great deal of money and this must be an appalling (kinh khủng) episode for you and your family, but you are entirely the author of your own misfortune.
