Andrew Wright was made homeless after a relationship breakdown, but the 39-year-old claims he was told by East Suffolk Council that he isn't a priority (ưu tiên) to be rehomed as he isn't a drug user.
In a Joint Scrutiny Committee meeting held on Thursday, October 21. Housing Solutions Manager, Kerry Denman, said: “As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, the council was forced in to using bed and breakfast accommodation, but this is not sustainable (bền bỉ).” Ms Denman said the focus on prevention aims to target the hidden homeless, for example those who ‘sofa surf’.
It’s deeply concerning that students are being forced to stay in hostels (ký túc xá), commute (đi lại) for hours or sofa surf to access their education. The Scottish Government must urgently intervene (can thiệp) to address the student housing crisis and provide support to students, students’ associations and institutions to ensure no student has to experience homelessness.
Many young people do not register as homeless with the local authority. Instead they sofa surf’ in the homes of friends or even strangers- and the latter exposes them to many dangers of abuse.
