Galentine’s Day is celebrated the day before Valentine’s Day this year, on 13 February. There are no rules on how to celebrate, you can be single, in a relationship, buy gifts or just send a message thanking those special ladies in your life.
From a fun skit in a popular TV show, to an annual event embraced by women internationally, Galentine’s Day is here to stay. Falling on the day before Valentine’s Day, the once-fictional event originated in Parks and Recreation when character Leslie Knope, played by the fabulous Amy Poehler, decided February 13 should be dedicated to a wonderful thing: female friendships. In a 2010 episode of the show, Knope hosted a long, boozy brunch for the ladies in her life, showered them with gifts and reconnected with her loved ones.
Over the past decade, the day before Valentines Day has become known as a female-friendly holiday to celebrate women and their gal-pals: Galentine's Day. But with an ongoing pandemic requiring social distancing, Galentine's Day celebrations will look different this year. Dining out is usually a big part of the celebration. And while some parts of the country have opened indoor and outdoor dining with restrictions, many in the U.S. are continuing to limit contact with those outside their immediate family until COVID-19 vaccines are more widely available.
