"Surrender cobra" = rắn hổ mang đầu hàng -> nghĩa (thể thao) là khán giả thất vọng đặt hai tay lên đầu khi đội nhà dường như bị thua hoàn toàn nhưng cũng không thể tránh khỏi được.

Fortunately, The Athletic has a staff of writers who have watched several lifetimes worth of college football telecasts. We’ve seen a ton of Alabama and Georgia. Through sheer volume, we’ve learned the quirks and the conversational tics of ESPN’s top broadcast crew. We know that when a team scores either late in the game or to take a huge lead early in the game, the director will immediately cut to a fan of the other team in the Surrender Cobra position.

Things went from bad to worse for Michigan and Wolverine Nation as No. 2 Michigan is getting absolutely dominated by No. 3 Georgia in the CFB Playoff semifinal. Fans of Wolverine Nation thought this was their year for their first National Championship since 1997. Not even at the end of the second quarter, Michigan fans have broken out the iconic and devasting pose, the surrender cobra. They were out in full force during Michigan’s loss to Georgia.

The Wolverines came into tonight rolling, winners of five straight, including a victory over Ohio State and a beatdown of Iowa in the Big Ten Championship Game. However, they’ve been outclassed by Georgia tonight. At halftime, the Bulldogs lead 27-3. They are 30 minutes away from reaching the national title game for the second time in the College Football Playoff era. After Georgia scored to go up four scores, ESPN’s camera focused on a particularly forlorn (đau khổ, tuyệt vọng) Michigan fan doing his best “Surrender Cobra” in the crowd. The poor young man is going viral.
