"It would kill a brown dog" = sẽ giết con chó màu nâu mất -> nghĩa là đồ ăn/đồ uống ôi thiu, quá độc hại, không thể ăn được.

Years ago, Royal Canberra served rum and Bonox to ward off the cold. For those too young to remember, Bonox is a beef concentrate (dung dịch) put out by Kraft in 1918 which is added to boiling water and sometimes called beef tea. You had to be freezing to even think about drinking it and when mixed with rum it would kill a brown dog.
