Latinitas' mission aligns with Barbie's Dream Gap Project. The "dream gap" is described as the period in time during a girl's childhood, typically around age 5, when she starts to feel as if boys are smarter and becomes discouraged to pursue her big dreams. Barbie launched the initiative in 2018 to help close the gap and push girls toward their goals.

‘I want my legacy to be one of change and positivity. ‘I am excited that young people might see my doll and believe that a love of makeup and creativity can lead to your dreams coming true.’ This International Women’s Day, Mattel will work with Inspiring Girls International, a non-profit that helps young girls meet their aspirations and to aim high. They’re calling this the ‘dream gap’, and are focusing on the time in girls’ lives when they’re likely to develop self-limiting beliefs.

The opposite is also true. When they're such a sponge to this information, which is likely, we're already seeing self-limiting beliefs at about age five, such as what some would call the dream gap, which describes a phenomenon where young girls, due to social constructions that women are less capable and valuable than men, are held back from living up to their full potential. I don't think it's necessarily coincidental that that's at the end of the rapid brain development and an openness to so much information. Again, it's a rich opportunity for us to provide super positive experiences for long-term impact.
