"Nero fiddles while Rome burns" = Nero gảy đàn khi thành Rome đang cháy -> nghĩa là người có vị trí, quyền lực nhưng lại làm ngơ hoặc không giúp ích gì trong giai đoạn khủng hoảng; như Obama vẫn chơi golf giữa đại dịch Ebola vậy.

“Nero fiddles while Rome burns” has become a phrase used to criticise (chỉ trích) someone who is doing something trivial (tầm thương) or irresponsible (vô trách nhiệm) in the face of an emergency. Nero was blamed for ignoring a serious matter, and neglecting his people while they suffered.

Though this might not rise to the level of “Nero fiddles while Rome burns,” Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has released a new line of “Don’t Fauci My Florida” merchandise, ironically (mỉa mai) timed as Florida’s COVID-19 cases are rising and Dr. Anthony Fauci’s recent warnings about the pandemic appear particularly relevant to the Sunshine State.
