"To take away the punch bowl" = lấy đi bát rượu -> nghĩa là nâng lãi suất khi nền kinh tế vừa hồi phục đến mức nhất định sau đợt suy thoái, thường nhằm tránh lạm phát. Câu này có nguồn gốc từ chủ tịch cục Dự trữ liên bang Mỹ, ngài William McChesney Martin, nói rằng: "khi tiệc đang vui lên, thì bà hầu (theo các cô gái dự tiệc) lấy bát rượu đi".

Yikes! It isn’t as if the Fed is promising (hứa hẹn) to take away the punch bowl from the party (đảng phái). There is no party, unless you are a sitting member of Congress attached to the sitting majority. The rest of us have been through years of pain. Now, the Fed can only promise more.
Now that the economic party has gotten too hot, the Fed is moving in the opposite (đối lập) direction—trying to take away the punch bowl. The question now is: Just how hard is The Fed going to fight? Also, how much of a resistance (kháng cự) does the market want to put up?
This was beautifully put (đưa ra) by a former Chair of the US Federal Reserve System, the central bank in that country, William McChesney Martin. Jr., that the job of the Federal Reserve was to take away the punch bowl just as the party gets going.
Powell’s confidence sparked the biggest one-day S&P 500 rally since 2020 yesterday. The question is how much longer he can take away the punch bowl and keep the party going at the same time.
