"Wet your beak" nghĩa là gì?

"Wet one's beak" = làm ướt mỏ -> nghĩa là lấy một phần lợi nhuận của người khác, thường bằng cách tống tiền; 'thu tiền bảo kê' (mafia).

Ví dụ
If you wet your beak in the real estate (bất động sản) biz (giới), there's a good chance this already feels like a personal recession. Spiked mortgage (cầm cố) rates—which saw the average 30-year fixed rate jump from 3.1% to 5.3% this year—have pushed the U.S. housing market into its swiftest plunge in activity since 2006.

Not surprisingly, other chains noticed and have all been trying to wet their beak in the category since then. According to Restaurant Business, at least 20 new chain entries were introduced in the U.S. after the 18 months after the Popeye’s sandwich arrival.

Many entrepreneurs (chủ doanh nghiệp) are able to raise money from angels, or investors who are willing to agree to more favorable valuations and let you retain more equity (cổ phiếu) in your business. Investors by the tens of thousands can "wet their beak" on 1 percent of your business.

The process takes too long, involves too many steps, and too many parties get to wet their beak along the way. The buyer’s primary (chủ yếu) source of stress is spending what is likely the most they’ve ever paid for something.
