"Hunt the gowk" = săn kẻ ngốc -> nghĩa là chơi khăm người khác trong ngày Cá tháng Tư.
Ví dụ
In Scotland, the custom (phong tục) was traditionally called 'Huntigowk Day,' meaning to 'Hunt the Gowk,' with "gowk" being Scots for a cuckoo or a foolish person.
The “gowk” would be asked to deliver a message that requested the help of the recipient (người nhận), the recipient would open the message to discover the following rhyme: “dinna laugh, dinna smile, hunt the gowk another mile” which means “don’t laugh, don’t smile, send the fool another mile”.
Confused? Well a ‘gowk’ is said to be a cuckoo or foolish person and traditionally Scots send this fool a sealed (đóng kín) letter to be delivered. When they complete this, the letter tells the recipient: ‘Dinna laugh, dinna smile. Hunt the gowk another mile’. And the recipient is meant to send the poor messenger somewhere else under the guise (chiêu bài, đội lốt) of trying to help someone.
