"Lashed to the mast" nghĩa là gì?

"Lashed to the mast" = trói tay vào cột buồm, gợi liên tưởng tới việc Odysseus trói tay các thủy thủ vào cột buồm để không bị tiếng hát các mỹ nhân ngư quyến rũ khiến thuyền đâm vào vách đá, trên đường trở về quê hương là đảo Ithaca từ cuộc chiến thành Troy -> cụm từ này nghĩa là kiên trì tiếp tục công việc/hành động dù phải đương đầu với khó khăn, tai họa.
Ví dụ
A reference to the scene in Homer's Odyssey in which Odysseus has his men lash him to the mast so that he will not succumb to the lure of the Sirens.
