"Radical Republicans" nghĩa là gì?

"Radical Republicans" = Đảng Cộng hòa Cấp tiến -> nghĩa là một phe của Đảng Cộng hòa trong Nội chiến Mỹ, ủng hộ quyết liệt việc bãi bỏ chế độ nô lệ, trao quyền cho công dân da đen và buộc các bang miền Nam phải chịu trách nhiệm về mặt tài chính và trái đạo đức trong chiến tranh.

It is apparent that Representative Nutting-Wong’s knowledge about the Fetal Life Protection Act (the law restricting some abortions (phá thai) after six months) is either misguided, uninformed or intentionally misleading. As one of the so-called “radical Republicans” whom she referred to with such disdain (sự khinh bỉ), I thought it was fitting to write a response and help my misguided colleague actually understand the law that she rails against.

This presented a challenge as many former slaves (nô lệ) took to the road, working when they wanted to and getting paid to do so. Just as the employers’ associations and Concerned Citizens Alliances would do a few decades in the future, one of the roles the KKK played was to intimidate Black workers to stay put and keep working for their former masters. Murder, beatings, whippings, and other physical torture (sự tra tấn) were considered reasonable means to effect this. Similarly, just as labor organizers would be chased out of town by the employers and their co-conspirators, so would radical Republicans working to enforce the laws of Reconstruction in the South.
