"Dead presidents" nghĩa là gì?

"Dead presidents" = các vị tổng tống đã khuất -> nghĩa là tiền giấy của Mỹ.

Ví dụ
America’s dead presidents are spread more evenly — one could almost say, more democratically — across the land. You could argue that this expresses a deep truth about the more egalitarian (người theo chủ nghĩa quân bình) nature of republican government.

All 39 dead presidents have appeared on a minted (đúc tiền) coin, but only a baker’s dozen has been portrayed at some point on a paper note. From 1792, when the dollar was named the official United States currency, to the present, citizens have been mindful of those individuals who were represented on the nation’s money.

The languages of death and money often go together: “death and taxes,” “dead presidents” even Marx’s “dead hand of the past.” In these cases, death can paralyze money. The narrower the criteria, the likelier (có khả năng) that outcome is. An award for an outstanding student in engineering is likely to find takers every year; an award for left-handed dental hygienists (chuyên viên nha khoa) from a particular small town may not.
