"Five o’clock follies" nghĩa là gì?

"Five o’clock follies" có follies là điên rồ, dại dột -> cụm từ này nghĩa là biệt danh quen thuộc đầy xúc phạm gọi các cuộc họp báo được quân đội Mỹ tổ chức cho phóng viên trong thời kỳ chiến tranh Việt Nam. Ngày nay, cụm từ này dùng để chỉ nỗ lực kiểm soát tin tức về một chủ đề.

Recently some in the world of journalism (báo chí) compared President Trump's daily briefings (chỉ dẫn) on the coronavirus pandemic to the daily 5 pm briefings, dubbed The Five O’clock Follies by the press, held in Saigon during the Vietnam War.
Five O’Clock Follies originally referred (nhắc tới) to regular press conferences held at the roof terrace bar in Saigon’s Rex Hotel, during the Vietnam war. In these briefings, United States, Australian and South Vietnamese military and civilian press officers would give a breakdown (phân tích) of the day’s hostilities, casualties (tổn thất) and alleged successes.
One of our first stops was the famous Rex Hotel where the American military command (chỉ huy) released its daily report to the world's news media from the rooftop bar, an event that became known as the Five O'Clock Follies. I ordered a colorful drink by the same name and Bruce had a 33, a beer he enjoyed during his previous visit.
