"Curry favor" nghĩa là gì?

'Curry favor' có một từ mới là favor nghĩa là ân huệ. Curry favor là nịnh hót ai, tâng bốc ai, cầu cạnh ai để xin ân huệ.

Ví dụ

I happen to know that she and her husband are interested in putting up a fence (hàng rào) and that they need my approval (chấp thuận) before it can be built. I think that’s an attempt to curry favor (cầu cạnh) with me so that I’ll sign off (đồng ý) on her request, but I’m not inclined to approve a fence that blocks my view (chắn tầm mắt) of a park!

Don’t assume that the mayor has a special fondness (ưa thích) for you. If you’re influential (có thế lực) and can help her deliver on (thực hiện cam kết) her campaign (tranh cử) promises, she’ll compliment you, invite you out to dinner and treat you very specially. The truth is she curries favor (tâng bốc) with anyone she considers to be very important.
