"Eke out" nghĩa là gì?

'Eke out' có nghĩa là kiếm sống một cách khó khăn, có thu nhập ít ỏi.

Ví dụ
My sister has always been drawn to helping the poor. Her job as a social worker, though, doesn’t pay very well. She barely covers her expenses every month. Still, she’d rather eke out a living doing what she likes than living comfortably (sống thoải mái) from a job that’s unrewarding (không mang lại hạnh phúc, không đáng khích lệ).

My uncle has been offered a lot of money for his farm land. But he says that he can’t imagine not raising (nuôi) cows and chickens, from which he gets little money. To many people, he ekes out (kiếm được rất ít tiền) an existence. Yet he feels that he lives quite richly (phong lưu). I guess it’s all about one’s perspective (tùy quan điểm mỗi người).
