'Jump the gun' (giống 'cướp cò súng') nghĩa là làm điều gì vội vã, quá sớm (act before the proper time; act prematurely, act too soon, be too/overly hasty, be precipitate, be rash; ahead of oneself).

Ví dụ
Did Speaker Paul Ryan jump the gun on beard boast?

Did the Evening Standard owner jump the gun over George Osborne's plans?

As you know, we have shareholders who have deep expertise, but we don't want to jump the gun.

Gamuda Bhd says all parties should not “jump the gun” over the reclaimed land issue in relation to the proposed RM27bil Penang Transport Master Plan (PTMP) as the project first needs to get public support via a detailed “feasibility” study.

"White lie" nghĩa là gì?

Rất hợp với dáng em. Photo courtesy Siavash Ghadiri Zahrani.

'White lie' nghĩa là lời nói dối nhỏ nhặt, thường không gây hại, đặc biệt là khi để không làm tổn thương ai đó (a harmless or trivial lie, especially one told to avoid hurting someone's feelings); ba xạo ('em mặc cái váy này có béo lắm không?' 'không hề, rất hợp với dáng em') :D.

Ví dụ
Christmas is a great time for a little white lie.

Halcrow stressed that lying on a CV was not just the proverbial (đã thành cách ngôn, ai cũng biết) 'little white lie' but amounted to fraud (gian trá, lừa lọc), which is illegal.

I think someone is telling porkies, or little white lie! Croatia has no interest at all about Serbia joining EU. Why put term's with blockage.

Some TSwift fans are hoping that Harris is telling a little white lie about the already planned shows and has plans to surprise Swift on her birthday. Secretly, Taylor is hoping that Calvin doesn’t really ditch (bỏ rơi (ai) trong lúc khó khăn) her on her birthday but right now it’s looking like he may really be working instead of partying with Taylor Swift.

"Take it or leave it" nghĩa là gì?

'Take it or leave it' nghĩa là hoặc lấy hoặc không, không có lựa chọn nào khác, phải chấp nhận hoặc từ chối mà không được ra điều kiện nào (take this one or none; you have no choice; to accept or reject unconditionally); chịu hay không.

Ví dụ
But penalising smokers by imposing (đánh thuế, áp đặt) outrageous (tàn bạo, thái quá) taxes on cigarettes is both hypocritical (đạo đức giả, giả nhân giả nghĩa) and cynical (khuyển nho, yếm thế, bất cần đạo lí), given smoking is now recognized as an addiction (nghiện) and not a take it or leave it habit.

Such nonchalant (hờ hững, lãnh đạm, vô tình) “take it or leave it” air (diện mạo, dáng điệu, thái độ) must be the envy of other candidates who appear willing to give their right arm just to have a shot at the presidency and the contributions that go with the campaign.

Internet firms are renowned for valuing diversity, inclusion and out-of-the-box thinking. Ironically though, some have started adopting rather conventional power postures in their hiring processes; the old “take-it-or-leave-it” job offer, with fixed salaries and no room for negotiation. Firms such as Reddit, Magoosh Inc. and claim to have taken this step for the sake of transparency and fairness, as pay negotiations typically put women at a disadvantage because men negotiate harder.

In 1984, Iran’s leaders woke up to the fact that Saddam Hussein of Iraq, with whom they were at war, had tasked his nuclear scientists with producing a uranium-based bomb, the sooner the better.
