"A necessary evil" = tai ương không tránh khỏi -> nghĩa là điều tồi tệ, đen đủi phải xảy ra để có được kết quả tốt đẹp; 'điều không muốn nhưng phải chấp nhận'

Ví dụ
Both are from Brunel University in London, England; one is studying supply chain management (quản lý chuỗi cung ứng), the other lectures (bài giảng) in environmental management (quản lý môi trường). Both view plastic as a 'necessary evil', something that needs to be used more effectively (hiệu quả), perhaps more sparingly (thừa thãi) in some cases, but ultimately should not be gotten rid of entirely.

The meeting: It’s been a necessary evil for just about every enterprise (doanh nghiệp) since the dawn (sự khởi đầu) of business. Scheduling hassles. Conference bridges. Agendas and minutes. After all these years—nay, decades—it still seems like we haven’t quite figured out how to cobble together a truly graceful meeting.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few months, you’ll be well aware (nhận biết) that for the first time ever Bolton Wanderers will be starting the season with a 12 point deduction for entering administration at the end of last season, with likely a further few points to be taken off for the players choosing to strike the Brentford game (Cheers lads...). It’s a bitter pill (viên thuốc đắng) to swallow (nuốt) but it’s a necessary evil we have to accept if it means putting the torrid running of the past few years behind.
