"Apple-knocker" = Người gõ trái táo -> Những người đến từ vùng nông thôn tới nơi thành thị để kiếm sống vì họ cảm thấy họ không thuộc về nơi vùng quê. Ví dụ: Em từ nhà quê mới lên thành phố. :)

Ví dụ
Band Director, Wendy Ronna, says many of the band members volunteered at the festival and played to honor the life of one of their own. An Appleknocker passed away from Muscular Dystrophy this past week. "For the past two weeks, we've been doing band camp. We started with the drumline and the color guard. They've been working really hard with routine and cadences (nhịp, phách). This past week, the whole band came in and worked really hard for our town parade (diễu hành) at the Peach Festival," said Ronna.

You may have attended an apple-knocker wedding in the past. The 1919 sense of the word meant “rustic,” (mộc mạc, quê mùa) but Dictionary.com states it could also mean “uncouth” or “rude.” A newspaper article from 1927 described an apple-knocker as “a peculiar type of human being who insists upon doing and saying things that, while offering satisfaction to himself, causes mental and physical inconvenience to others.”

The Merriam-Webster Time Traveller tool tracks when words were first recorded in print, all the way back to 1492. Thanks to this marvel of technology, we’re able to look back and celebrate some of the the most memorable neologisms (sử dụng từ mới) (def: a new word, usage, or expression; origin: 1772) celebrating their 100th birthday in the year ahead. Don’t be an apple-knocker (def: a rustic; origin: 1919) , and have a look at a half dozen other centenarian (sống trăm tuổi) dictionary entries.
