"Kick in the teeth" = cú đá vào răng -> nghĩa là điều thất vọng hoặc thất bại đáng xấu hổ.

Ví dụ
Just last week I wrote to the Secretary of State to tell him that reappointing (phục chức) Judith Thompson would be preposterous (vô lý hết sức) and a calculated kick in the teeth for innocent victims. Sadly he has decided to deliver that kick in the full knowledge of the hurt and offence it will cause.

The biggest horror of this latest kick in the teeth to the oil industry, this gazillionth suspension and delay, is that the government of our Canada didn’t even so much as show up to watch the proceedings. It didn’t intervene (can thiệp). It didn’t submit arguments. It wasn’t even there as a casual bystander (người ngoài cuộc).

The Blues were beaten in controversial circumstances (tình huống gây tranh cãi) in the North East on Saturday as Spennymoor Town took advantage of the referee's decision to hand Danny Livesey a bizarre (kì quái) second yellow card, the Moors winning the game at the very death. It was a kick in the teeth for the Blues and one that they felt was unjust, the 2-1 loss their first reverse of what has been up to now a very strong start to the season.
