"Race apart" nghĩa là sự chia rẽ (giữa anh em, một giống nòi, một dân tộc).

Ví dụ
Right from the start I wanted the Targaryens, and by extension the Valryians from whom they were descended, to be a race apart, with distinctive (đặc biệt) features that set them apart from the rest of Westeros, and helped explain their obsession (tình trạng bị ám ảnh) with the purity (sự thuần khiết) of their blood.

But my father had been a young man in 1950s Boston, when disdaining (khinh thị, xem thường) the Irish was far from anachronistic (lỗi thời). People had stopped arguing that we weren’t really white, but if you tried to break out of your ethnic enclave (nhóm người tách biệt trong một cộng đồng người), you found a surprising number of places where you were considered a race apart.

Consider that moment in the film when a Southern bigot (người cố chấp, bảo thủ) learns that Tony is an Italian-American. He tells Tony that he is “half black.” Tony “goes ballistic” (nổi khùng) on him. This scene illustrates a barely remembered historical truth. There was a time when “native” white Americans believed that southern European immigrants, especially Italians and Greeks, were barely white. The same was true of eastern Europeans. As Eric Goldstein noted, many Italian Americans conceived (quan niệm) of themselves in similar terms — as a race apart.
