"Lightning in a bottle" nghĩa là gì?

Photo by Max LaRochelle on Unsplash.
'Lightning in a bottle' là một thành tựu hay một sự thành công đạt được một cách khó khăn, thậm chí gần như khó có thể đạt được (thường sử dụng cùng với "catch" hoặc "capture").

Ví dụ
Rather than trying to catch lightning in a bottle, it’s important to actually listen to the nuanced (nhỏ nhặt, tiểu tiết) experience that drives Buffett and Munger’s advice.

We’re watching the Bengals, Cardinals and Packers try to mimic (bắt chước) what the Rams are doing by hiring young, innovative (tiến bộ, đổi mới) coaches (huấn luyện viên), hoping to catch lightning in a bottle like L.A. did with McVay.

“I’ll be active in November to find them another mare (ngựa cái) to breed (gây giống) to Alternation,” West said. “We’ll try to catch lightning in a bottle again.”

Con hư tại mẹ

đúng thế,

nghiên cứu mới cho thấy, trứng có thể (thật ra) "chọn" tinh trùng,

If you've attended high school, you can probably remember filling in a Punnett square during a biology class. It was the simple diagram that could not only make you feel like a knowledgeable budding geneticist, but could also help you figure out the probability of your kids having blue eyes in the case the cute classmate you had a crush on agreed to live with you happily ever after.

...What underlies all of Mendel's laws is the idea of randomness. Scientists believe that it is up to chance which sperm (tinh trùng) will fertilize (thụ tinh) an egg and which combinations of alleles (vận động viên) the offspring would have. That is, of course, after the sperm has proven itself to be the strongest and most enduring swimmer (người bơi) of them all. But the point is, the egg has no say in this. It sits passively waiting to be fertilized.

This whole narrative, including Mendel's laws, may be about to change. Dr. Joseph H. Nadeau, principal scientist at the Pacific Northwest Research Institute, has found evidence that suggests eggs and sperm don't always combine randomly (ngẫu nhiên), but in fact the egg may choose (chọn) which sperm to fertilize it.

A parrot (vẹt) who warned two alleged drug dealers in Brazil that police were coming was taken into custody after it almost foiled (đánh bại, đẩy lui, chặn đứng, làm thất bại) an undercover (chìm) drug raid (cuộc đột kích), authorities said.

When the green-and-white bird spotted officers Tuesday at its owners' Teresina home, the parrot squawked "Mama, Police!" in Portuguese.

Despite the bird's efforts to tip off the owners, a man and woman were arrested. Drugs, including crack and marijuana, were also found at the property as well as large amounts of money.

The parrot, who police did not name, has reportedly continued to show its loyalty to its owners and is refusing to sing like a canary (chim hoàng yến; (lóng) kẻ chỉ điểm).

Vô địch làm tình

THEY might be small, but these sex-crazed (say mê, điên cuồng) insects (sâu bọ, côn trùng; (nghĩa bóng) đồ nhãi nhép, đồ sâu bọ, đồ giun dế) prove (chứng tỏ) that size doesn't matter (kích cỡ không là vấn đề) when it comes to getting down and dirty.

From bugs (con rệp) with eyes on their penises (mắt ở dương vật) to critters (sinh vật sống) who have nonstop sex for 79 days, it's not surprising that the tiny creatures are great at reproducing (sinh sản; sao chép lại, mô phỏng).

A fascinating (hấp dẫn, lôi cuốn, quyến rũ, thú vị) new book lays bare (tiết lộ, bóc trần, vạch trần) the bedroom antics of the little creatures, including the lazy bedbugs that penetrate their lovers' stomachs and the water boatmen that rub their own penises to 'make music'.

But it's not all fun in the world of insect sex - some critters facing injury (chấn thương), exploding testicles (nổ tinh hòan) and even certain death when they engage in the activity.

...When it comes to lasting as long as possible in bed, Indian stick insects are the champions (nhà vô địch). The creatures, who are kept as pets in some UK homes, have apparently been known to stay glued together (dính chặt vào nhau) for 79 days in 'an extreme sport version of tantric sex'.

Đồng xu may mắn

rảnh rỗi không có gì làm,

một hành khách tung đồng xu may mắn ở tq khiến toàn bộ máy bay bị trễ chuyến,

-> có lẽ để may mắn, thì nên tung hành khách này ra khỏi máy bay...

While boarding a China Southern Airlines flight in the Guangxi Zhuang region’s capital of Nanning on Saturday, the female passenger (hành khách) reportedly tossed six coins (đồng xu) at the aircraft (máy bay) for good luck (vận may).

She was detained (giam giữ, cầm tù) shortly afterward.

The flight, bound for Bangkok, was delayed (chậm trễ) by 78 minutes while crews retrieved (lấy lại, tìm lại được) the coins.

The airline later urged its future passengers to refrain (kiềm chế, cố nhịn, cố nín) from being “superstitious” (mê tín) on the social networking platform Weibo.

'Chúng ta là những đầu ti'

gần 200 người tập trung ở thành phố new york và đăng ảnh khỏa thân để phản đối chính sách "ảnh khiêu dâm" của facebook,

chính sách của facebook ở việt nam như nào các mem nhỉ, chúng ta cùng chờ đợi :D

Artist Spencer Tunick has battled (chiến đấu, phản đối) Facebook and Instagram over its stringent (nghiêm ngặt, nghiêm khắc, chặt chẽ) "community guidelines (hướng dẫn cộng đồng)" banning (cấm) nudity (trần truồng, trần trụi, khỏa thân) for half a decade. Tunick, who organizes and photographs large groups of nude people around the world, first had his Facebook page disabled in 2014 after posting a carefully pixelated image of 75 women in Portugal. Apparently the color gradiations in the nipples (đầu ti, núm vú) were too visible. Since then, it's been a push and pull of meticulously (tỉ mỉ, kỹ càng) censoring (kiểm duyệt) his artwork (tác phẩm nghệ thuật) in hopes the images won't be removed—or worse, his account deactivated.

But now, he's sending a powerful message (thông điệp mạnh mẽ) directly (trực tiếp, trực diện)) to those social media platforms (nền tảng truyền thông xã hội). On June 2, between 100 and 200 people will gather in New York City, posing naked to challenge Instagram and Facebook's nudity policies. Tunick and the National Coalition Against Censorship are organizing the project, called #WeTheNipple, with the goal of convincing the social platforms to allow artistic photographic nudity.
