"Nose (someone or something) out" = đánh hơi -> nghĩa là đánh bại đối thủ với khoảng cách sát nút; khám phá/phát hiện điều gì bằng cách hành động hết sức cẩn thận và từ từ.

Ví dụ
"So, it's nice to nose him out at the end. He's trying to beat me and I'm trying to beat him, but we're both happy for each other." Even with all his tournament experience, Hermanson had to fight off nerves down the stretch and drain a tough three-foot putt on the 18th hole to stay in front.

Truthfully, Bb Pilipinas Globe 2017 Nelda Ibe was destined for a title higher than Globe. She is really a favorite by both Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc (BPCI) and ABS-CBN. But nerves prevented her from fluidly expressing thoughts during the Q&A. She was able to cross over, though. But that served to pave the way for both Clenci and Rodriguez to catch up and nose her out in the final rankings.

Fully underground or protruding (nhô ra, thò ra) slightly from the soil, pecan truffles (nấm cục hồ đào pecan) have evaded foragers (người đánh phá, lục lọi) for decades. Although they grow on the roots of wild and commercial trees alike, the tawny knobs (núm vàng nâu) are easiest to find in orchards (vườn cây ăn quả), where neatly maintained grounds help diggers spot them and dogs nose them out. But they can still be maddeningly difficult to locate, especially without a canine (giống chó) companion. “One way to find them is to rake hundreds of trees,” Cohen says. “That’s why the dog is so valuable. Tate can smell them and take you right to them.”
