"The pitcher will go to the well once too often" = cầu thủ ném bóng cùng lắm là một lần ghi bàn/ném chính xác thôi -> nghĩa là sự may mắn nào rồi cuối cùng cũng hết; chấm dứt một chuỗi may mắn.

Ví dụ
Unfortunately for them, they go to the well once too often: first down is a pass to the right for four yards; second down is a pass to the right for four yards. Third down is a run up the middle for the first down. Next it is the same pass to the right for... an interception (sự đánh chặn)!

On the other hand, a poor planning could push you down to the very bottom of an ugly well. Being on a winning streak is exciting with popular hurrays (hoan hô), but a pitcher has to go to the well once too often if the plan fails. Every individual is happy if they can celebrate it at the expense of others. That’s what Lijo, the director of the movie puts across.

Unfortunately for Sabathia, he had to go to the well once too often. The Phillies rocked him in Game Two of the NLDS, tagging him for five runs over 3.2 innings. The Brewers suffered an early elimination (sự loại trừ), but Sabathia’s efforts were greatly appreciated. To this day he receives deafening applause (tràng vỗ tay rất chói tai) when visiting Miller Park.
