"Flat-footed" = bàn chân phẳng -> nghĩa là chậm chạp và vụng về; chậm phản ứng (không chuẩn bị, ko sẵn sàng, bị bất ngờ).

Ví dụ
To be honest, the state of Wyoming was kind of caught flat-footed when those closures were announced. It just hadn’t been something that had ever been imagined (tưởng tượng) here.

This particular highlight (điểm nhấn) happened during the last two minutes of the game. Harrell got the ball on the left, and then he went to work on Williams of the Celtics. Harrell caught Williams flat-footed and blasted past him for the easy slam. ClutchPoints’ video of the incident shows just how incredible (ấn tượng) the moment was.

Its competitors (đối thủ) seem flat-footed by comparison. Foodland is making efforts to appeal (hấp dẫn) to the changing preferences of millennial consumers. The flagship Foodland Farms location at Ala Moana is a good example of that.
