"Cancel culture" nghĩa là gì?

"Cancel culture" = văn hóa xóa sổ, hoặc "call-out culture" (văn hóa phơi bày), hay văn hóa tẩy chay. Xuất phát từ phong trào "Me too", văn hóa tẩy chay cho thấy sức ảnh hưởng mạnh mẽ từ mạng xã hội, khi một người bị lên án là lạm dụng tình dục/ tội phạm tình dục và bị phơi bày, "cư dân mạng" sẽ đồng loạt tẩy chay người đó, dẫn đến nhiều ảnh hưởng tiêu cực. Cụm từ này thường được sử dụng để chỉ trích xu hướng đó.

Cancel culture doesn’t actually achieve (đạt được) its central aim, which is to cancel. Outside of Twitter rants (nguyền rủa) and furious (giận dữ) op-eds (bình luận), careers still thrive (phát triển) and abusers still evade accountability (trốn tránh trách nhiệm). We have to confront (đối mặt) these failures when we discuss cancel culture.
The “cancel culture” that some say doesn’t exist has struck again: Woody Allen’s autobiography (tự truyện), “Apropos of Nothing,” scheduled for publication (xuất bản) by Hachette Book Group next month, has been canceled due to objections (phản đối) from Allen’s estranged (xa lạ) son, Ronan Farrow, famous journalist. The protests (biểu tình) were driven by the belief that the 84-year-old filmmaker sexually abused (lạm dụng tình dục) his adopted daughter (con gái nuôi), Dylan Farrow, in 1992.
