"Scare stiff" nghĩa là gì?

"Scare (one) stiff" nghĩa là dọa ai sợ điếng người. "Stiff" là cứng, cứng nhắc, chết cứng. "Scare one silly" cũng có nghĩa tương tự.

Some of the officers investigating (điều tra) the skewed employment were scared stiff on Monday night by some paraphernalia (đồ đạc linh tinh) that was dropped at the doorsteps of their hotel rooms.
