"White elephant" nghĩa là gì?

"White elephant" = voi trắng -> vật vô dụng, gây phiền toái, tốn rất nhiều tiền nhưng không thể bỏ được.
Ví dụ
The dam has become something of a white elephant.
The theory behind using older but proven technology was that it would ensure that the SLS could be developed quickly and cheaply. However, reality has not proven the theory to be correct. Ten years later, with NASA once again headed back to the moon, the space agency is stuck with a white elephant of a big rocket.
It had been a great opportunity to see how end-products are getting put together. Now, with disruption (gãy vỡ) of the transport links along the supply chains, one gets to see where the logistical bottlenecks (nút thắt cổ chai) lie and how disruptive it actually can be. A large containership, as efficient as it can be when fully laden (chất hàng), can very easily turn into a “white elephant” just by virtue (bởi vì) of another link of the intermodal transport chain being affected.
