"China syndrome" nghĩa là gì?

"China syndrome" = Hội chứng Trung Quốc -> nghĩa là một kịch bản về mối đe dọa vũ khí hạt nhân ở Bắc Mỹ, về mặt lý thuyết sẽ có thể xuyên thẳng qua trái đất đến Trung Quốc (điều không thể). Kịch bản này cũng đã sử dụng làm cơ sở của một bộ phim cùng tên (1979) do Jack Lemmon và Jane Fonda thủ vai chính.

China Syndrome is a hypothetical sequence (chuỗi giả định) of events following the meltdown (lõi lò phản ứng hạt nhân tan chảy) of a nuclear plant and the name of this 1979 film starring a long hair and bearded Michael Douglas.
Originally, “The China Syndrome” refers to a nuclear meltdown scenario in the U.S., so named for the fanciful idea that there would be nothing to stop the meltdown tunneling (đào hầm) its way to the other side of the world. Today this metaphoric apocalypse (hủy diệt ẩn dụ) seems like a distant nightmare of the 70’s, however, today it is the Chinese economy itself that could trigger some sort of global economic meltdown.
“The China Syndrome” is a colloquial term for a very real threat in the event of a nuclear accident (tai nạn hạt nhân). It refers to a reactor (lò phản ứng) accident wherein reactivity becomes so supercritical (siêu hạn) that operators cannot control it. The fuel gets so hot, it melts its mounting channels, control rods, and even exterior housing, burning through concrete (bê tông) and steel to seep unstoppably downwards - in fanciful terms, all the way to China (hence the name).
